Who Makes Movies?

May 21st, 2005 by Wood

Or, more to the point: who pays for movies and how can we best insult and drive them away?

Maybe you’ve seen these anti-piracy ads that have started appearing in with the promos shown before feature films, maybe you haven’t. Personally, I find them insulting because, you know, I paid to get in here in the first place. I would go so far as to say that most people who pay to get into a movie aren’t going to pirate it, nor do they even know how.

Me, I know how, sure. I mean, I’m a geek. I’ve even sampled some pirated films, both off P2P and in the form of DVD’s and VCD’s borrowed from persons unnamed. It was done out of curiosity and I ended up either deleting them off my hard drive or giving them back. Why? Because they were utter shit. I would much rather pay for a DVD that is going to look good and sound good than waste my time with a stolen copy off the Internet. So I am not your target market, Mr. MPAA, okay?

R4NT.com agrees with me, as their response to the MPAA’s “Who Makes Movies,” campaign shows.
