A spell runs amok in World of Warcraft and becomes infectious, killing lots and lots of player characters. In a weird parallel to the real world, the young and characters with poorly developed immune systems (i.e. new players of low level and thus low hp) and rapid movement around the WoW (via teleporters rather than airplanes) thus facilitating quick dispersal of the plague agent are significant factors in the outbreak.
Yes, I am a nerd, but I find this fascinating.
